The Collective’s mission is to share music traditions from Puerto Rico and Cuba through performances and educational workshops. Current and past members are educators in cultural centers as well as institutions of higher learning across the nation. Among these are the Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center, Eastern Illinois University, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, University of Wyoming Laramie, Northwest College, University of Denver, Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico, Ohio State University, Colgate University, Penn State University, among others.
Among the many topics available is a hands on workshop on clave music, the history of Latin jazz, evolution of salsa bands, a brief survey of Puerto Rican musical folklore, and writing for Latin band ensembles.
